Legion , real Erik Hagstedt , is a Swedish metal singer who is best known as a temporary member of the band Marduk .

Life

As a youth, Legion was greatly impressed by Jon Nödtveidt's talent; it was “burned in” how he sat on the couch and conjured incredible things out of his guitar. We have all admired and envied him for his huge talent, which he showed even before Dissection . ”From 1993 he brought out the fanzine The Gathering . This included bands from the Swedish black metal environment such as Dissection and Abruptum .

In 1994 he played with Ophthalamia , where he replaced Jon "Shadow" Nödtveidt, some rehearsal room recordings that appeared on To Elishia in 1997 , and the 1995 album Via dolorosa . Legion was in turn replaced by All. In 1995 Legion took over the backing vocals for the song Thorns of Crimson Death on Dissection's second album Storm of the Light's Bane .

From Heaven Shall Burn… When We Are Gathered Legion sang with Marduk. In December 2003 Legion left the band because he "no longer felt the necessary spirit". Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer described him as the "best entertainer of the black genre", whereas his successor at Marduk, Mortuus, acts on stage "with economical movements" and is "in stark contrast to Legion's entertainer qualities". He later founded the band Devian with the former Marduk drummer Emil Dragutinovic . In 2010 he separated from Devian because of his work as a tattoo artist, but became the singer of the band Witchery . When he was accepted, according to bassist Sharlee D'Angelo, he knew “of course that WITCHERY would not use him 365 days a year”. In 2011 Legion left Witchery again.

Trivia

In an interview with CD-Starts, Erik Hagstedt explains: In 2003 I moved to Germany for a few years, spent time with my children and had a tattoo shop. To what extent and how long Hagstedt himself worked as a tattoo artist is not known.
