Lai Runming ( Chinese  赖润明 , Pinyin Lài Rùnmíng ; born May 5, 1963 in Dongguan , Guangdong Province , People's Republic of China ) is a former Chinese weightlifter . He won the bantamweight silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games .

Career

Lai Runming began lifting weights as a teenager in Shilong Weightlifting Sports School in 1975 . In 1978 he joined the Chinese People's Army and started working for this institution from then on. He was only active until 1987, so he resigned at the age of 24.

Lai Runming made his debut at an international championship at the 1982 Junior World Championship in São Paulo . He finished there in the bantam weight with 245 kg behind the Bulgarian N. Dimitrov, who won with 250 kg, the 2nd place before Hara from Japan with 242.5 kg. In 1983 he finished 2nd at the Chinese Bantamweight Championships and set a new junior world record with 125.5 kg in the snatch. In 1983 he was then used immediately at the World Championships for Seniors in Moscow , where he scored 252.5 kg (117.5-135) in a duel in the bantamweight and came in 10th place. From the winner Oksen Mirsojan from the Soviet Union , who scored 292.5 kg (127.5-165), he was still a few kilograms away.

In 1984 he also went to the bantamweight division at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . He increased his performance in a duel to 265 kg (125-140) and thus finished behind his compatriot Wu Shude , who won the gold medal with 267.5 kg (120-147.5) , the 2nd place and thus secured the Olympic Silver medal . Reaching for the gold medal for Lei Runming was quite realistic, because he led after the tear with 5 kg in front of Wu Shude. In the push, however, he did not manage 145 kg twice and could not overtake it. In snatch he became world champion with 125 kg at this event, which was also considered the world championship .

In 1985 Lai Runming became the Chinese featherweight champion and set a new Asian record in snatching at 131.5 kg. At the 1985 World Championships in Södertälje he started again in the bantamweight division and achieved there 267.5 kg (120-147.5), which reached 5th place. The winner was the Bulgarian Neno Terziiski , who came to 280 kg (122.5–157.5).

In 1986 Lai Runming was the featherweight winner at the Asian Games in Seoul ahead of Yosuke Murake from Japan and Lee Myong-soo, South Korea . At the World Championships this year in Sofia he came in bantamweight in snatching to 127.5 kg and won a bronze medal. He made three unsuccessful attempts in pushing, so that he remained unplaced without a duel.

Despite this mishap, he was also used in the 1987 World Cup in Ostrava . There he started in featherweight and reached 6th place with 285 kg (120–155). He stayed relatively far from the winning performance of the Bulgarian Stefan Topurow , 315 kg (140-175).

After his resignation in 1987, Lai Runming was trained as a trainer. In 2008, he took over the post of head coach for the Shilong weightlifting team.
