The Leichhardt River East Branch is a river in the northwest of the Australian state of Queensland .
Origin of name
Like the Leichhardt River , the river is named after the German-Australian researcher Ludwig Leichhardt (1813–1848).
geography
The Leichhardt River East Branch rises on the northern slopes of Black Mountain , a mountain southeast of Mount Isa , and flows north through unpopulated area. It crosses under the Barkly Highway east of Mount Isa and flows into the Leichhardt River about 20 kilometers north of the highway.
