Leidrad of Lyon
Leidrad von Lyon (also Leidrat, Latinized Leidradus or Laidradus; * around 745 in Franconia ; † December 28, 821 or soon after) was Bishop of Lyon from 799 to 813 or soon after .
Leidrad came from Baiern, received his training in Freising and was a deacon in the diocese of Freising under Aribo von Freising. After 782 he wrote a charter for Duke Tassilo . He came to the court of Charlemagne , who made him Bishop of Lyon and sent him as messengers from 797 to 799 to Narbonne, Arles and Marseilles in September and Spain. In 799 he took up his office as bishop in Lyon. In Lyon he founded schools and a library. In old age he retired (around 814) to the monastery of Saint-Médard in Soissons . His successor was his pupil Agobard , whom he made coadjutor in 813. According to a letter from Théodemir to Claudius of Turin from around 821, he was still alive then.
His works were published by Ernst Dümmler in Patrologia Latina 99.
His annex (Manécanterie) built by him around 810 to the Saint-Jean Cathedral in Lyon still exists.
