Johann Carl Ludwig Illies
Johann Carl Ludwig Illies (born September 30, 1799 in Waren ; † September 20, 1871 there ) was a German court bell founder.
Life
Carl Illies came from a resident of goods since the beginning of the 18th century clothier family . He was born as the son of the cloth maker Johann Joachim Jacob Illies and his wife Anna Elisabeth, geb. Sengebusch was born in Waren. He initially worked as a pewter, among other things he made two candlesticks for the church in Kargow in 1823 and two candlesticks for the Poppentin village church in 1824 . From 1841 he worked as a bell founder . At first he worked in the courtyard of his house on Rosenstrasse , but then moved his workshop to Penzlinschen Berg in front of the city. Today the street Glockengießerweg is reminiscent of Illies' foundry. Among other things, as the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg-Schwerin court bell caster, he cast three bells in 1856 on behalf of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg for the Schwerin Castle Church . In his life, Illies poured over 100 bells. After his death he was buried in the cemetery in Waren. The City History Museum in Waren has two of its bells in its museum collection.
He died of asthma . One son was the entrepreneur Carl Illies . The painters Arthur Illies and Otto Illies were his grandchildren, the painter Harald Illies (1911–1985) his great-grandson.
