The Protestant church is a listed church building in Poppentin , a district of the municipality of Göhren-Lebbin in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).

History and architecture

The rectangular building was built in field stone in the 13th century . The corner stones made of hewn granite are still preserved from this church . The walls are made up of ogival windows, which are divided in the choir area by smaller, five-part windows with crosspieces; the flowery stained glass are remarkable. The walls were partially renewed in 1822. During the extensive renovation work from 2000 to 2002, the roof was re-covered. A barrel vault was drawn into the interior at the end of the 19th century .

tower

The retracted, almost square tower was built in brick . It was largely renewed in 1822. The walls are divided by sound openings that are embedded in pointed arches. It is covered with a flat pyramid roof with roof tiles. The portal in the basement is made of field stone.

Furnishing

Altarpiece
  • The organ was built by Lütkemüller in 1870 , it is playable.
  • The altarpiece is a copy of the depiction of the crucifixion by Carl Gottfried Pfannschmidt .
  • The marble plaque on the north wall is inscribed with three names of those from Lücken, former lords of Grabenitz .
  • The stalls, pulpit and altar are neo-Gothic and date from 1883.
  • The pewter candlesticks by Johann Carl Ludwig Illies from Waren are replicas of the candlesticks from the church in Sierow.

Bells

  • The bell from 1851 was cast in 1886.
  • The 1871 bell was designed by Ed. Albrecht cast from Wismar.

graveyard

The church stands in a cemetery, which is surrounded by a dry stone wall. In the back next to the church, a copy of the Blessing Christ by Bertel Thorvaldsen, built in 1890, is preserved as a tomb. It was built by Freiherr Walther von Tiele-Winkler for his son Hubert, who died at the age of two. Later Walther von Tiele-Winkler was also buried next to his son. The statue was dismantled on October 31, 2012, restored in Berlin and re-erected in May 2013. In the cemetery there is another listed sculpture on the grave of Frieda Glantz.

local community

Until December 31, 2019, Poppentin was part of the Sietow parish together with the churches in Sietow and Klink . After its dissolution, the parish came to the Malchow parish, which also includes the town church in Malchow and the village church Alt Schwerin , as well as the art and cinema church in Nossentin (church region Müritz, Propstei Neustrelitz, parish Mecklenburg of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (northern church) ).
