Lelm is a district of the city of Königslutter am Elm . Lelm, which is over a thousand years old, is located on the edge of the Elm ridge in the Helmstedt district .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 983. Today, the thousand-year-old, originally Romanesque church, which was later modernized several times, and the Dünnhauptarchiv with mementos by the earliest Brunswick archaeologist Johann Christian Dünnhaupt (1716–1786) are particularly worth seeing . Active as a pastor in Lelm from 1763 to 1786, he discovered the Ole Hai burial mound field in Elm , where he made Brunswick's first urn finds and published a book about it. A street is also named after him. Most of the urns he excavated are now in the Prehistory and Early History department of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum in Wolfenbüttel .

On March 1, 1974, Lelm was incorporated into the city of Königslutter am Elm.

Several clubs are based in Lelm, including the TSV Lelm, the Fastnachtsgesellschaft Lelm, the trombone choir and the Lelm volunteer fire brigade .

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Lelm shows a red-gold-blue rainbow over a green three-mountain, which symbolizes the Elm. The rainbow is a symbol of the old knights of Lelm, who had considerable property in the 12th to 15th centuries. The knights used a slanted rainbow as their seal.

On January 20, 1971, the Braunschweig administration president approved the coat of arms approved by the municipal council.
