Klein Steimke is a district of the town of Königslutter am Elm in the Helmstedt district in Lower Saxony .

Location and transport links

The village is located on the northern edge of the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park , around 1 km north of the A 2 , and can be reached from there via junction 59 (Königslutter). Country roads lead in the north to Neindorf and in the south to Ochsendorf , the road to Glentorf is now closed to general vehicle traffic. The regional route “From the Elbe to the Harz” (green route) of the German half-timbered road runs through Klein Steimke . Bus routes operated by Kraftverkehrsgesellschaft Braunschweig run from Klein Steimke to Königslutter and to the main train station in Wolfsburg .

history

The chapel is believed to have been built around 1513 when the bell was cast. Around 1600 Klein Steimke belonged to the Fallersleben office . The inn was built in 1848. In 1885, Klein Steimke came to the newly founded Gifhorn district ; previously it belonged to the Gografschaft Hasenwinkel, which had its seat in Heiligendorf . In 1887 the village got a brick factory , in 1894 the rifle club was founded . In 1953 the volunteer fire brigade was founded. From 1965 on, the communities Ahmstorf , Almke , Klein Steimke, Rhode and Uhry formed the entire community of Rhode without the member communities giving up their independence.

On March 1, 1974, the community of Klein Steimke from the Gifhorn district was incorporated into the town of Königslutter am Elm and thus into the Helmstedt district. In 1993, Klein Steimke was given a coat of arms for the first time.

The local mayor of Glentorf and Klein Steimke is Peter Altenbach ( CDU , as of 2018) In the local elections in 2011, Klein Steimke's own local council was elected for the last time, comprising five seats. In the last local elections in 2016, a joint local council for Klein Steimke and Glentorf, comprising seven seats, was elected. Around 67% of 130 eligible voters took part in the local council elections in 2016.

The coat of arms designed by Wilhelm Krieg, introduced in 1993, shows a blue lion on a yellow background framed by four red hearts. It is reminiscent of the coat of arms of the Duchy of Lüneburg , to which Klein Steimke once belonged, and the coat of arms of Königslutter. The wavy line refers to the Schunter running west of Klein Steimke .

In Klein Steimke there is a chapel that belongs to the parish of St. Stephani in the Hasenwinkel parish in the Wolfsburg-Wittingen parish of the Hanover regional church . The Catholic residents belong to the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption (Königslutter) . Klein Steimke also has a playground and football field , a fire station, a shooting range and a cemetery.

The restaurant Zum Dorfkrug , the grocery store, Post Office II , the school and the brick factory south of the village were closed. Since 1964, when the school in Ochsendorf was closed, the children have been attending the Hasenwinkel elementary school in Neindorf, which was newly built from 1962 to 1964. In 1969 the school association Ochsendorf - Klein Steimke decided to dissolve it.
