Lena Georgescu (born September 18, 1999 in Bern ) is a Swiss chess player and holds the FIDE title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

Life

Georgescu grew up in Moosseedorf near Bern and initially learned to play chess from her father at the age of five. At the age of eight she became a member of the Bern Chess Club. From 2013 she was trained by the grandmaster Artur Jussupow and this year she also took part in her first international tournament, the European Youth Championship U14 in Budva .

In 2016 she achieved the title of FIDE female champion, making her the youngest FIDE champion in Swiss chess history, ahead of Laura Stoeri .

In 2017 she became Swiss Women's Champion in Grächen . With the Swiss women's selection, Georgescu took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2016 and 2018 as well as in the European Team Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

In Switzerland she is a member of the Winterthur Chess Society and the Bern Chess Club. In 2018 , Georgescu won the Swiss team championship with the Lucerne chess club , and from 2017 to 2019 she played with SC Kirchberg in the Swiss Bundesliga . In the German women's chess league, Georgescu played for SG Augsburg 1873 in the 2016/17 season, and has been active for the Karlsruhe Chess Friends since the 2017/18 season .

Georgescu attends a sports remedial class at the Neufeld grammar school in Bern.
