Ivan Lenković German Johann Freiherr von Lenkowitsch († 1569 in Metlika , buried in Novo mesto , Slovenia ) was a Croatian nobleman and Uskok leader . On his tombstone is written: "Hans Lenkowitsch zu Freyenthurn an der Colp ", although he originally comes from the Lika region .

Life

As Uskoke, Ivan Lenković first appeared militarily in 1539 as captain of Senj and also as Uskok leader in the area around Senj as far as the course of the Sava river . To defend the city of Senj, he had the Nehaj fortress built. Among other things, Herbard VIII von Auersperg received his basic military training from Baron von Lenković during the time . On May 12, 1546, Lenković was appointed third Uskok leader by Count Nikolaus Salm, who was in the service of Ferdinand von Habsburg . Lenković was not only a Uskok leader, he had the village of Stari Grad Žumberački rebuilt in today's Zagreb County . In addition, it was his plan to settle the Uskoks throughout Žumberak .
