Leo Gehrig

Leo Gehrig (* 1946 ) is a Swiss psychologist and author .

Career

He comes from a large working-class family. From 1966 to 1968 he was a teacher in a special upper school class in St. Gallen . He then studied psychology , psychopathology and education at the University of Zurich . This was followed by a licentiate in 1974 and a doctorate in 1977.

From 1975 to 1998 he was a senior psychologist at the Psychiatry Center Hard PZH, Embrach , today part of the Integrated Psychiatry Winterthur Zurich-Unterland IPW. Here, among other things, he worked from 1995 to 1998 in setting up and managing a ward for drug-dependent children and young people. Afterwards he worked in his own practice and as a school psychologist at high schools until retirement . He also gave lectures and worked as a lecturer in the training of teachers , social workers and therapists .

He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pro Mente Sana Foundation , founding president of the Swiss Association of Clinical Psychologists SVKP / ASPC (1978–1983) and vice president of a school administration. From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council , elected on the SP list in the Winterthur Land constituency, where he distinguished himself with advances in the areas of health and education.
