Leon Wałęga (born March 25, 1859 in Moszczenica , Galicia , † April 22, 1933 in Tuchów , Poland ) was a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Tarnów .

Life

After graduating from high school, he began studying theology in Lemberg in 1878 . After receiving the minor orders in 1881 Archbishop Franciszek Ksawery Wierzchleyski sent him to the Gregoriana in Rome for further studies . There he was ordained a priest on March 24, 1883 . On July 9, 1884 he received his doctorate in theology .

First prefect, then deputy rector of the seminary in Lviv he was also active in the Metropolitan Court as a notary, he taught theology and philosophy .

On April 15, 1901, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Tarnów. He was ordained episcopate on May 12, 1901, by the Bishop of Cracow , Cardinal Jan Puzyna de Kosielsko ; Co- consecrators were Józef Bilczewski , the archbishop of Lemberg and Joseph Weber, auxiliary bishop in Lemberg. His special concern was the training of priests and pastoral care in his diocese.

On May 4, 1932, he had to resign for health reasons. Pope Pius XI appointed him titular bishop of Tlos and a year later titular archbishop of Oxyrynchus .

Leon Wałęga retired to the Redemptorist monastery in Tuchów on March 15, 1933 , he died a little later and was buried there.
