Nardu made such a positive impression this season that the island nation's best clubs were soon after him. The fact that he decided on the then not outstanding capital city club Valletta is primarily due to the fact that he already had many friends in Valletta at that time because his father ran a kiosk there.

In his first season in 1976/77 with the Citizens , he won the Maltese Cup competition , scoring the “golden goal” in the final for a 1-0 win against the local club and old rival FC Floriana . In the following season 1977/78, Valletta FC even won the double and Nardu was the top scorer in the Maltese league with a total of 16 goals in the same season . In the season after next , Nardu was again at the top of the scorers list with 15 goals and thus had a decisive share in the championship title of the same year. In the season 1983/84 was followed by another championship title and in the following season Farrugia was appointed Player of the Year in Malta selected.

Nardu scored twice for his home country: on February 10, 1985 against Portugal (1: 3) and on November 17, 1985 against Sweden (1: 2).
