Cynthia Hardy

Cynthia Hardy (* 1956 in Canada ) is Professor at the University of Melbourne and Head of the Student Council for Management.

Career

Hardy graduated from the University of Warwick and earned her bachelor's degree in 1978 and her PhD in Philosophy in 1982. She moved to McGill University , where she works alongside Henry Mintzberg . In 1998 she finally changed the leadership of the newly founded student council in management. In 2006, Hardy accepted one at the Advanced Institute of Management Research and another at the Center for Strategic Change and Performance Management at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and in 2007 the Montague Burton Fellowship at Cardiff Business School . From 2004 to 2009 she was visiting professor at the University of Leicester .

In addition to Leicester, Hardy has held visiting professorships at the University of Ferrara (Italy), the École supérieure des sciences économiques et commerciales (France), the Simon Fraser University ( Burnaby , Canada) and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) ).

Research interests

Using discourse theory , Hardy examines power and the exercise of power in organizations. Hardy and a handful of other researchers made this research approach a central topic in organizational research. In addition to this theoretical research, Hardy also examined topics such as refugees, AIDS or non-governmental organizations in the Palestinian autonomous regions in qualitative surveys .

In 2001, Hardy helped found the International Center for Research on Organizational Discourse, Strategy & Change (ICRODSC), which has since grown from a network of four to twelve universities in Australia, Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Sweden and Japan.

Honors

Hardy was honored with an honorary doctorate from Cardiff Business School. Her work was honored with the Greif Research Award in Canada and the Woodward Medal from the University of Melbourne for outstanding contributions to the social sciences. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Science in Australia.

In 2014, Cynthia Hardy was made an honorary member of EGOS. The laudation was given by David C. Wilson . In 2019 she was elected to the British Academy .
