David C. Wilson

David Charles Wilson (born February 19, 1951 , Leeds ) is an English economist and Professor of Strategic Management at Warwick Business School .

Career

Wilson graduated from the University of Leeds with a Masters and PhD from the University of Bradford , where he was a Research Fellow from 1978-85. In 1986 he held a visiting professorship at Uppsala University and from 1986 to 1994 he taught at the University of Warwick. From 1994 to 97 Wilson taught as Professor of Organization Studies at Aston University and then returned to Warwick University.

From 1994 to 97 he served as chairman of the British Academy of Management, from 2003 to 2006 as chairman of the European Group for Organizational Studies, for which he was the successor of Arndt Sorge and predecessor of Haridimos Tsoukas as editor-in-chief of the journal Organization Studies .

In addition to his scientific career, Wilson advises authorities and private companies, for example for Nestlé , British Steel , Lloyds Banking Group ; Midland Bank , Oxfam, and others.

Research and Impact

Wilson dealt with strategies for change management , mechanisms and methods of decision-making , dealing with risk and uncertainty, leadership and management in commercial and non-commercial organizations, internationalization and politics in organizations. He conducted many empirical studies in these areas and published the results in various journals and books. As one of the first researchers, Wilson tried to extend the knowledge of management research to companies in the non-profit sector. He was one of the earliest critics of decision theories.

Honors

Wilson is a Fellow of the British Academy of Management, and was elected Chairman in 1995.
