Compared to the previous season , the newly promoted Sliema Wanderers and FC Marsa replaced the relegated FC Birkirkara and FC Żabbar St. Patrick . Sliema was first class again since the 1982/83 season , Marsa for the first time since the 1980/81 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the First Division.
