The 1982/83 Maltese Premier League was the 68th season in the history of the Maltese top football league . The Ħamrun Spartans became champions for the fourth time .

Compared to the previous season , the promoted Rabat Ajax and Żebbuġ Rangers replaced the relegated Senglea Athletics and Gżira United . Rabat was first class again since the 1964/65 season , Żebbuġ for the first time since the 1979/80 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the First Division.
