Compared to the previous season , the newly promoted FC St. Andrews and FC Mqabba replaced relegated Naxxar Lions . St. Andrews was first class, Mqabba first class again since the 1985/86 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the First Division.
