Compared to the previous season , Sliema Rangers , FC St. George’s and FC Cottonera did not participate. The FC Floriana took after a year hiatus in part, Ħamrun Spartans after five years of interruption.

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. If there was a tie, a playoff was played for the championship.
