Compared to the previous season , the newly promoted FC Birkirkara and FC Mosta replaced the relegated Rabat Ajax and Tarxien Rainbows . Birkirkara first class since the 1985/86 season , Mosta first class again since the 1974/75 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last placed had to be relegated to the First Division.
