The First Division 1964/65 was the 50th season in the history of the highest Maltese football league . The Sliema Wanderers became champions for the 17th time .

Compared to the previous season , promoted Gżira United replaced the relegated FC Melita and FC St. George’s . Gżira was represented in the upper house for the first time.

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the Second Division.
