Compared to the previous season , the promoted Rabat Ajax and FC Birkirkara replaced the relegated Tarxien Rainbows and Żebbuġ Rangers . Rabat and Birkirkara were first class again since the 1988/89 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last placed had to be relegated to the First Division.
