The First Division 1946/47 was the 32nd season in the history of the highest Maltese football league . The Ħamrun Spartans became champions for the third time .

Compared to the previous season , the two newcomers Ħamrun Spartans and Naxxar Lions replace relegated FC Msida Saint Joseph . While Ħamrun played for the first time since the 1934/35 season in the First Division, Naxxar was represented for the first time in the House of Lords.

The season was played with round two legs. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last placed had to relegate to the Second Division.
