The First Division 1975/76 was the 61st season in the history of the highest Maltese football league . The Sliema Wanderers became champions for the 21st time .

Compared to the previous season , the newly promoted FC Msida Saint Joseph and Senglea Athletics replaced the relegated Gżira United and FC Mosta . Msida was back in the House of Lords for the first time since the 1969/70 season , Senglea played first class for the first time.

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to be relegated to the Second Division.
