Leonard Huxley (born December 11, 1860 in London , † May 3, 1933 in Hampstead , London) was a British teacher, author and editor .

Leonard Huxley was the second son of Thomas Henry Huxley and his wife Henrietta Ann. He was taught at University College School , the University of St Andrews, and Balliol College , and received his degree as Literae Humaniores in 1883 . In 1884 he began teaching at the Charterhouse School . In 1900 Macmillan Verlag published the biography he wrote about his father. 1901 Huxley began operations from the publisher Smith, Elder & Co. on. There he assisted Reginald John Smith (1857-1916) with the publication of Cornhill Magazine . After the death of his friend Smith and the takeover of the publishing house by John Murray , Huxley became the sole editor of Cornhill Magazine . Two years later he published his biography on Joseph Dalton Hooker and in 1920 his volume of poetry Anniversaries .

On April 16, 1885, he married Julia Frances Arnold (1862–1908), a daughter of Thomas Arnold (1823–1900). With her he had four children: Julian Huxley , Noel Trevenen Huxley (1889-1914), Aldous Huxley and Margaret Arnold Huxley (1899-1981). After the death of his first wife, Huxley married Rosalind Bruce on February 23, 1912. From this marriage come the two sons David Bruce Huxley (1915-1992) and Andrew Huxley .

Huxley is the namesake for Mount Huxley in East Antarctic Victoria Land .
