Leonid Wiktorowitsch Wladimirski ( Russian Леонид Викторович Владимирский , scientific transliteration Leonid Viktorovič Vladimirskij ; born September 21, 1920 in Moscow ; † April 18, 2015 ) was a Russian graphic artist and illustrator . With his drawings for various Burattino books and the Emerald City books by Alexander Volkov , he achieved great fame in Russian-speaking countries and the former Eastern Bloc countries.

Life

After attending school, Vladimirsky went to a building college, but he was only able to complete three courses because he was drafted into the army in August 1941. After his discharge from the military, he took a course in animation at the Gerasimov Institute for Cinematography , which he graduated with honors in 1951.

In 1953 Wladimirski illustrated Alexei Tolstoy's book The Adventures of Burattino , and in 1959 the first book in the Emerald City series, The Magician of the Emerald City . The latter was later reprinted over 110 times with Vladimirski's illustrations in the Soviet Union and Russia. In the 1960s, Wladimirski created illustrations for a large number of other children's books with a total print run of over 20 million copies. In 1974 Vladimirsky received the Soviet honorary award “Honored Artist of the RSFSR ” for his work .

In 1995 the book Burattino sucht ein Schatz , written by Vladimirsky, was published in Russia as a continuation of the Burattino series. Burattino followed a year later in the emerald city . Both books have not yet been published in Germany. 2001 Wladimirski created the illustrations for the Emerald City-story Goodwin the Terrible by Sergei Suchinow .

Vladimirsky was married and had a daughter, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
