Leonie Baumann

Leonie Baumann (* 1954 in Bad Salzuflen ) is a German qualified pedagogue , curator and publicist . Since April 2011 she has been the rector of the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art .

Career

Leonie Baumann studied mathematics , education and sociology at Bielefeld University . In the 1980s she moved to Berlin, where she took over the field of art in architecture at Kulturwerk Berlin . She was also the editor of the magazine Kunst am Bau . The New Society for Fine Arts (NGBK), based in Berlin , appointed her as managing director in 1991. From 1998 to 2000 she was chairwoman of the art advisory board of the first international women's university "Technology and Culture" (ifu), which was founded on the occasion of the world exhibition in Hanover in 2000 as a university reform experiment by women for women.

From 2002–2009 Leonie Baumann chaired the nationwide umbrella association Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine (ADKV). In 2008 she also became spokeswoman for the Berlin Council for the Arts and a member of the newly established advisory board for the cultural education project fund . Due to her diverse activities and experience in the field of art and art journalism, the Extended Academic Senate of the Weissensee School of Art elected her to succeed Gerhard Strehl as Rector . As part of her new role, Ms. Baumann is pursuing the goal of intensifying the practical relevance of the course and the networking of the location.

As a co-founder of the Berlin initiative “Rethinking the City”, she calls for a realignment of Berlin's property policy.
