Leonie Stein

Leonie Stein (born August 6, 1948 in Bern , Switzerland ) is a lecturer for theater , dance and performance , mentor and director . Stein was head of the theater department until 2007 and headed the Y Institute (for transdisciplinarity) at the Bern University of the Arts from 2007 to 2013 .

Life

Leonie Stein studied after her basic training with Beatrice Tschumi in Bern and from 1964 classical dance in London at the Royal Ballet School and graduated in 1967 with a diploma.

Career

After the training, engagements at various opera houses in Italy ( Catania , Trieste , Palermo , Arena di Verona , Florence ) and Germany ( Staatstheater Kassel ) followed. Since 1984 she has realized her own choreographies and productions .

From 1977 she became a lecturer for acrobatics and dance at the drama school and later college for theater of the Conservatory for Music and Theater in Bern, from 1989 as deputy director. In 1996 she succeeded Paul Roland , the founder of the drama school, as head of the University of Theater, which in 2000 was integrated into the newly founded University of the Arts Bern (HKB) as the theater department . In 2005, due to the restructuring in the Bologna process , she created the position of course director, which Mathias Spohr took over. As the head of the Theater Department, she developed the profile for the Bachelor and Master courses.

During her management activity she was, among other things, President of the “Conference Theater Schools Switzerland” (KTHS) and board member of the Center Switzerland of the International Theater Institute ITI and the “Standing Conference for Drama Schools ” (SKS). She also represented the interests of theater and dance professionals in various cultural commissions and foundations.

In 2007 she moved to the management of the Y Institute (for transdisciplinarity) at the HKB and was responsible for the further development of the transdisciplinary courses. Her teaching activities took place within the framework of Y-teaching and in the form of mentoring for Y-students.

Since leaving the HKB in 2013, she has been working as a freelance lecturer, mentor and director. Since 2014 she is u. a. active as artistic assistant and dramaturge at TanzTheater Andre Koslowski (TTAK) in State College, Pennsylvania, since 2018 TTAK has been producing in Telluride (Colorado) , USA.
