The leopard flower ( Iris domestica ) is a species of the subgenus Hermodactyloides in the genus Iris ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae). The German name of the species goes back to the dark spots on the flowers, which are vaguely reminiscent of a leopard skin.
description
The leopard flower grows as a perennial herbaceous plant with a light brown rhizome as a perennial organ. The simple, parallel- veined leaves are arranged in two rows and have a length of 20 to 60 cm and a width of 2 to 4 cm.
The rhipidia stand together in a branched inflorescence . The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six spotted bracts are free and shaped. There is only one circle with three free stamens . There are three free pens available.
The capsule fruit has a size of 2.5 to 3 × 1.5 to 2.5 cm. The black seeds have a diameter of 5 mm.

The leopard flower is native to South and East Asia ( Japan , China , Taiwan and North India ). It is naturalized in the northern United States .
use
The leopard flower is used in traditional Chinese medicine. The plant is poisonous.
