Leopold Pischl (born October 5, 1891 in Imst , † October 30, 1985 in Kitzbühel ) was an Austrian officer and ski functionary.

Life

Leopold Pischl was the son of the court clerk Eduard Pischl and Johanna Pischl, born in Imst. Laubach. After attending primary school in Fiecht and Tarrenz , he attended grammar school in Meran and grammar school in Bregenz .

After graduating from high school , he entered the cadet school in Innsbruck in 1907 and was retired on November 18, 1911 as an ensign for the 4th Tyrolean Kaiserjägerregiment in Bregenz. In April 1914 he was transferred to Feldjäger Battalion 18 and moved with this on August 3, 1914 to Galicia. On August 29, 1914, while attacking a Russian position near Huice (about 30 km from Tomaszow), he lost his right arm to a grape bullet . For his service, he was the first lieutenant to be awarded the Cross of Merit by the Emperor and was the first of the regiment to be presented in the hospital in Pilsen. On October 24, 1914, at an imperial audience in Vienna, his wish was granted to remain an active officer with the rank of captain in the 1st Tyrolean Kaiserjäger Regiment until the end of the war.

After completing his military service, he learned the trade and switched to the hotel business for a year in 1925.

Ski official

Pischl was involved in skiing from a very early age. As a high school student in Bregenz, he was a ski student with Georg Bilgeri . During his time at the cadet school in Innsbruck, he took part in ski courses in 1908.

Since 1919 he has been a member of the Austrian Ski Association , and in 1922 he became a certified referee in the Tyrolean Ski Association.

After his first assignment as a referee in Kitzbühel in 1924, he was brought to Kitzbühel by the Kitzbühel hotelier Ernst Reisch in 1926 to organize and work in the winter sports club Kitzbühel WSV (or after renaming the Kitzbühel Ski Club KSC in 1931). From 1926 to 1951 he was secretary at WSV and KSC, from 1951 to 1953 as chairman and from 1953 to 1980 as managing chairman as the responsible ski functionary.

In addition to performing essential official duties at the regional, national and international championships held in Kitzbühel during this time, he was also involved in the establishment and development of the Hahnenkamm races (since 1931) and the technical development of the Streif and Ganslernhang racetracks (first FIS homologation of an Austrian downhill course 1953) involved.

The formation and development of the so-called Kitzbühel wonder team ( Christian Pravda , Fritz Huber , Toni Sailer , Anderl Molterer , Ernst Hinterseer , Hias Leitner ) in the 1950s also falls under his aegis .
