Johann Leopold von Luck and Salisch (born July 22, 1740 in Freyhan near Militsch , † May 19, 1813 in Brodelwitz near Steinau ) was a Prussian officer, most recently major general and holder of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

Johann Leopold von Luck and Salisch came from the Salisch line of the Silesian main line of the widespread ancient noble family von Luck. He was the son of Hans Wolf von Luck and Salisch (* 1691), landlord on Goitke bei Militsch and Zweckfronze, and his second wife Eleonore Anna von Poser and Pangau (1699 – after 1748).

Military career

Leopold von Luck and Salisch chose the soldier profession. In 1758 he joined the Dragoon Regiment No. 1 as a Junker. During the Seven Years' War , which was already underway , he fought in the battles near Torgau and Freiberg as well as in the battles near Lindeweise, Barnd, Meißen and the siege of Dresden. At that time he became an ensign on February 11, 1760.

After the war he was made Second Lieutenant on October 13, 1765, and Premier Lieutenant on February 2, 1777. As such, he fought in 1778/79 in the War of the Bavarian Succession in the battle near Trautenau. On September 3, 1783 he was promoted to staff captain and on July 28, 1792 he became adjutant general of Prince Louis of Württemberg. In addition, he became major on August 28, 1792 and took part in the First Coalition War. He fought in the cannonade of Valmy as well as the battles at Guntersblum, Babenhausen, Eschweiler, the battle of Kaiserslautern and the siege of Bitsch. At that time he was appointed squadron chief on February 9, 1793 and on October 23, 1793 he received the Pour le Mérite for the battle at the round head in front of Bitsch. His commanding general , the Prince of Hohenlohe, reported to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II who proposed to be awarded the Order pour le merite. In the Hohenlohe report of October 15, 1793 to the king it says: ..... I also consider it a duty to make EKM known to Major von Luck ... as a man of decisive merit and bravura, which he did in my presence has demonstrated gloriously. After the war he was made lieutenant colonel on June 5, 1800 and colonel on May 27, 1803. On June 5, 1806, he received his resignation as major general. Because of the loss of his eyesight, he received a pension of 800 thalers; he died on May 19, 1813 in Brodelwitz (Steinau district).

family

He was married three times. On October 8, 1799, he married Christiane von Kreckwitz on Brodelwitz (* July 21, 1772; † May 27, 1801). She died shortly after the birth of her son Ernst Leopold (* / † May 13, 1801).

He then married on January 12, 1803 on Raudten Friederike Amalie Henriette von Seltzer (born January 26, 1776, † May 19, 1803). After her untimely death, he married Eleonore Friederike von Luck (* December 17, 1779, † July 20, 1832) from the Kursko house on December 12, 1803 in Brauchitschdorf . The couple had the following children:
