The Lernwerft is a private elementary and community school in the Friedrichsort district of Kiel . The school provider is the Lernwerft gGmbH, founded in 2006 .

concept

The Lernwerft is one of 16 schools in Germany that are operated according to the Club of Rome School concept . In the learning yard, instead of the classic frontal teaching, teaching takes place in blocks . Classes are held in double lessons and students are encouraged to study independently, learning in groups in which they support one another. The pupils stay together from the first to the ninth grade, there is no selection by type of school. At the end of the ninth or tenth grade, it is decided on the basis of the average grade achieved which pupils can complete a tenth school year or attend the upper secondary school. The school concept does not include staying seated .

In 2013 the first students at the Lernwerft passed their Abitur .

Grades 7 to 13 of the Lernwerft are located in a listed former garrison hospital built in 1877 , which previously housed the Heinrich von Stephan elementary school. The building was completely renovated from 2006 to 2012 . The primary school and grades 5 and 6 are located in the buildings of the former Pries Realschule, which are within walking distance. This building is also a listed building. Both have their own gym, which are also listed.

The Lernwerft operates a day-care center that accepts children from the age of one.

Support association

In 2010 the non-profit association of friends and sponsors of the Lernwerft Kiel e. V. founded to support the upbringing and education at the Club of Rome School and the Kindergarten of the Lernwerft ideally and financially.
