Les Appalaches is a regional county municipality ( French municipalité régionale de comté, MRC ) in the Canadian province of Québec .
It is located in the administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches and consists of 19 subordinate administrative units (two cities, 13 municipalities and four districts). The MRC was founded on January 1, 1982. The main town is Thetford Mines . The population is 42,904 and the area 1911.1 km², which corresponds to a population density of 22.4 inhabitants per km². Until November 15, 2008, the MRC was called L'Amiante .
