The terrible children (Original title: Les Enfants terribles ) is a French film from 1950 . Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville . The film is based on the story of the same name by Jean Cocteau .

The film is about the incestuous relationship between the siblings Elisabeth and Paul. Paul is taken with Dargélos. One day when he is hit by a snowball, he is given bed rest and Elisabeth has to look after him. The relationship between the two siblings becomes more and more intimate. Elisabeth invites Gérard and Agathe to her apartment. But when Elisabeth notices that Paul has fallen in love with Agathe, she tries to win him back in the end. In the end, Elisabeth and Paul commit suicide together.
