background

The production of Les Miserables was carried out by BBC Studios together with Lookout Point and CZAR TV under producer Chris Carey . It was originally supposed to be developed in cooperation with the Weinstein Company , but due to the Weinstein scandal , the company was ultimately no longer involved in the project.

Filming took place in northern France from February 2018 and ended in July 2018. The first episode was released on December 30, 2018 on BBC One . The series, which was written by Andrew Davies and directed by Tom Shankland , aired weekly, so the last of the six episodes was first released on February 3, 2019.
