Les Roches du Diable

Les Roches du Diable ( German  "Devil's Stones" ) are two menhirs in a forest southeast of Miniac-sous-Bécherel in the west of the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in France . The stones were classified as a monument historique in 1960 .

Les Roches du Diable are an upright standing and a lying large menhir. They are part of an interrupted row of stones of about 50 blocks, some of which are more than a meter high. The stones are made of dolerite , a black volcanic rock near basalt found in northern Brittany and often used by the Neolithic people to make polished axes . The standing menhir is 3.6 m high and the lying one is 4.5 m long.
