Lesley Vanderwalt

Lesley Vanderwalt (born 20th century in New Zealand ) is an Australian make-up artist .

Life

Originally from New Zealand, Lesley Vanderwalt moved to Australia in 1981 to work for director George Miller on the film Mad Max II . After finishing her work, she stayed in Australia and worked with Miller again and again, including Piggy Babe in the Big City in 1998 and Happy Feet (2006).

Furthermore, she has participated in more than 50 productions from home and abroad, including for the television series Farscape and films such as Dark City , The Great Gatsby and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones . In 2002 she won the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards for Moulin Rouge .

For her work on Mad Max: Fury Road , she and Elka Wardega and Damian Martin received an Oscar in the category Best Make-up and Best Hairstyles at the 2016 Academy Awards . She also won a BAFTA Film Award in the same category along with Damian Martin, as well as another Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award. The shooting of Mad Max: Fury Road took place mainly in the Namib desert in Namibia under adverse conditions. Together with Damien Martin, who was responsible for the special effects make-up, Vanderwalt took over the management of make-up and styling and had a 35-man crew under him.
