Leslie Norman

Leslie Armande Norman (born February 23, 1911 in London , United Kingdom , † February 18, 1993 in Knebworth , ibid) was a British film editor , film director , film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Norman joined film at the age of 14 and got to know the industry from the bottom up. After all sorts of temporary and assistant jobs, he began to work as an editor with the dawn of the sound film age and most recently edited high-level entertainment films for the Ealing Studios such as Das große Treiben and Nicholas Nickleby . In the meantime, at the end of 1938, as a partner of Anthony Hankey, he had tried his hand at directing a B-thriller for the first time.

In 1947 Norman switched to production before finally switching to directing in 1954. In just seven years of activity, Norman staged a mystery melodrama ( you were 13 ), a horror story ( XX unknown ), a melodramatic outback road movie ( Precious Burden ) and two war dramas with a European ( Dunkirk ) and East Asian setting that sought objectivity and closeness to reality ( Seven against Hell ) as well as a school drama ( temptation on the school desk ) and a constructed crime story (one hundred hours of fear ).

After 1961, Leslie Norman only found employment as an episode director for series television (mainly crime fiction such as Der Baron , Simon Templar , Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone , Department S and Die 2 ); he was prematurely replaced in 1967 by working on the fantasy horror beasts lurking in front of Caracas and replaced by the co-owner of the producing company Hammer Films , Michael Carreras . In 1978 Leslie Norman ended his film career and retired to old age.
