Leslie H. Wexner (born September 8, 1937 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American entrepreneur and billionaire . He is the founder and chairman of the LBrands Corporation .

Life

Wexner comes from a Russian-Jewish immigrant family. He graduated from Ohio State University . He heads the US company L Brands, which he founded in 1963. Over the years, Wexner built a trading and marketing conglomerate, his brands include: Victoria's Secret , Pink, Bath & Body Works , Henri Bendel, The White Barn Candle Company and Abercrombie & Fitch .

In 1984 he founded the Wexner Foundation .

Resigns from the Republican Party

He'd been a Republican Party supporter since graduation and the wealthiest party donor in the state of Ohio. After Wexner had declared, among other things, that he was ashamed of President Trump's reaction to the extreme right-wing riots in Charlottesville in 2017 , he announced his resignation from the Republican Party in September 2018. He could no longer support the "nonsense" there.

Foundation of the Mega Group

In 1991 Wexner founded the "Study Group" together with the billionaire Charles Bronfman , known to other circles as the Mega Group. It was an informal association of some of the richest and most influential business people involved in Jewish affairs. Max Fischer, Michael Steinhardt, Leonard Abramson , Edgar Bronfman and Laurence Tisch were among the members. The group met twice a year for seminars on philanthropy and Judaism topics. In 1998 Steven Spielberg spoke about his personal religious journey and later the group discussed Jewish summer camps. The group, led by Wexner with Charles Bronfman, inspired a number of philanthropic initiatives such as the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education , Birthright Israel, and support for the renewal of Hillel .

Relation to Jeffrey Epstein

Wexner was in close contact with Jeffrey Epstein , who managed his fortune until Epstein was sentenced to prison. Wexner was considered the main source of Epstein's wealth. In August 2019, after Epstein's re-imprisonment, Wexner wrote to the Wexner Foundation and reported in detail about his business relationships with Epstein. According to him, the former financial advisor misappropriated large sums of money from Wexner and his family. Wexner is represented by lawyer Mary Jo White from Debevoise & Plimpton .

As of October 2017, his net worth was estimated at $ 5.9 billion. He owns the luxury motor yacht Limitless . In 1999 he acquired the Picasso painting Nu au Fauteuil Noir for the Wexner Center for the Arts .
