Juniperus komarovii is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It is native to China and the southeast of Russia.

description

Juniperus komarovii grows as an evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 20 meters. Only one tribe is usually trained. The hanging branches form an open, irregularly shaped crown . The loosely arranged, semicircular or square branches, up to 1.5 millimeters thick in cross-section, extend straight or curved from the branches. The bark is initially brownish gray in color and bleaches with age.

The scale-like leaves are 1.5 to 6 millimeters in length and are triangular-ovoid to triangular-lanceolate. The tip is pointed and slightly curved. At the base of the underside of the leaf there is an egg-shaped or elliptical gland. The leaves are cross-opposite or occasionally in three whorls on the branches.

Juniperus komarovii is monoecious ( monoecious ). The male cones are egg-shaped to spherical with a diameter of 2 to 3 millimeters. They usually contain ten microsporophylls with two to three pollen sacs each . The berry cones are oval to approximately spherical in shape with a thickness of 0.8 to 1.2 centimeters. They are purple-black to black in color and frosted when they are ripe. Each cone bears a seed. The furrowed seeds are egg-shaped with a length of 6 to 8.5 millimeters.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Juniperus komarovii is in China and southeast Russia. In China it comprises the southeast of Gansu , the south of Qinghai and the northwest of Sichuan . In Russia, the species is found in the southern part of the Primorye region .

Juniperus komarovii thrives at altitudes of 3000 to 4000 meters. The species is found in forests that grow on dry and steep mountain slopes. Among other things, it forms mixed stands with Juniperus pingii .

Systematics

It was first described as Juniperus komarovii in 1927 by Carl Rudolf Florin in Acta Horti Gothoburgensis , Volume 3 (1), Pages 3–5, Table 1: 1-3. Synonyms for Juniperus komarovii Florin are Juniperus glaucescens Florin and Sabina komarovii (Florin) WC Cheng & WT Wang .

Hazard and protection

Juniperus komarovii is classified as "low endangered" in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary.
