The land Amberground lies in eternal night, only in the capital Akatsuki an artificial sun spreads light. Only the "Letter Bee" travel between the three districts of the country, messengers that transport people's hearts. So they travel through the country in whose darkness the Gaichu live. These giant insects devour people's hearts and only the Letter Bee venture through the darkness.

The 12 year old boy Lag Seeing was rescued from grave danger by the Letter Bee Goos Suede when he was seven. After that he wanted to become a messenger himself and is now traveling on behalf of the Bee Hive company. He is accompanied by niche, a so-called "dingo" who act as bodyguards. She also has her pet steak with her.

music

The music for the series, with the exception of the opening and closing titles, was composed by Kunihiko Ryo .

The following titles were used as opening and closing titles, which also entered the Oricon charts as singles when they were later released : For the first season, the opening titles Hajimari no Hi ( は じ ま り の 日 ; 11th place) by Shikao Suga feat. Mummy-D for the first 13 episodes and Love Letter no Kawari ni Konoshi o. ( ラ ブ レ タ ー の か わ り に こ の 詩 を。 ; 95th place) from Seira for the rest. The end credits were underlaid with the songs Hatenaki Michi ( 果 て な き 道 ; 33rd place) by Himeka for the first 13 episodes and Hikari no Kioku ( 光 の 記憶 ; 9th place) by Angelo for the rest.

The second season used Chiisana Mahō ( 小 さ な 魔法 ; 23rd place) from Stereopony for the first 13 episodes in the opening credits and Yakusoku ( 約束 , 13th place) by Shikao Suga for the rest. Wasurenagusa ( 勿忘 草 ; 18th place) from Piko was used for the credits .

reception

The volumes sold in Japan more than 85,000 times in the first few weeks, the 20th and last volume already reached this number in the week of its publication.

The German magazine Animania praises “that the slowly and gradually unfolding plot always remains clear and understandable” , despite a “wealth of background information and mysterious objects” . Despite the “romantic, fantastic design and the heart theme” , “a real adventure manga in the tradition of Gin Tama and D.Gray-man ” is offered. The anime was cast with many well-known voice actors and was a success in Japan.

Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy also emphasize the balance between the long, calm passages of monologues and self-reflections with the action sequences and political intrigues that appear in between, although the script sometimes seems overwrought and the abundance of details borders on "bells and whistles". The music is often too much in the foreground and is sometimes cheesy and cheesy. In contrast, the picture backgrounds are breathtaking and create a fascinating, convincing pre-industrial world.
