description
Acis fabrei is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 15 cm. It is an onion-forming geophyte and looks quite similar to the closely related Acis nicaeensis , but is smaller.
The grass-shaped foliage is dark green and 10 to 17 cm long and only 2–3 mm wide. It is semi-upright at flowering time and later lies completely on the ground.
The 2 cm large, white and nodding, short-stalked flowers appear terminal and always individually on the long-stalked inflorescence. They appear after the leaves in late spring. The flowers consist of six tepals ( tepals ) in two circles. The inner three tepals are somewhat wider than the outer ones and, in contrast to these, do not taper to a point. At the base of the flower stalk there is a cleft spathe with two upright branches. The stylus is slightly shorter than the six stamens with long yellow anthers. The ovary is below in the bell-shaped flower base . There is a disc with six upright, small "teeth".
Occurrence and endangerment
Acis fabrei occurs only in the French department of Vaucluse . There you can find them z. B. in sparse forests on the southern slope of Mont Ventoux or at the exits of the Gorges de la Nesque . The individual locations are very small and only contain a few specimens. The total population is around 5500 flowering specimens. Because there are so few individuals , the species is classified as endangered by the IUCN , with populations remaining stable in recent years. She is strictly protected.
