Leyre Morlans (born March 7, 1987 in Saragossa ) is a former Spanish ski racer . It started in the World Cup from 2006 to 2009 , took part in two World Championships and once in the Winter Olympic Games .

Career

Morlans took part in FIS races from January 2003 and started a month later in the European Cup for the first time . In December 2003 she celebrated her first of four victories in FIS races. From 2004 to 2007 she took part in three Junior World Championships , in which a 29th place in the Super-G 2007 was her best result. Morlans had her first start in the World Cup on January 26, 2006 in the Super-G of Cortina d'Ampezzo , in which she did not, however, cross the finish line. Three weeks later she was part of the four-person Spanish ski team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . There she finished third from last in the Super-G, 49th place, while she failed in the downhill after a fall. The next year she only took part in the giant slalom at the 2007 World Championships in Åre , but was eliminated due to a peat error in the first round.

From 2007 Morlens was used more and more often in the World Cup. She mainly started in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines and, more rarely, in giant slalom, but did not reach the points in any of her 28 World Cup races, i.e. among the best 30. While she never qualified for the second round in giant slalom , she usually achieved placements between 50 and 60th in Downhill and Super-G. Her best World Cup results were 45th place in Super-G in Sestriere on February 10, 2008 and 46th place in Downhill from San Sicario on 27th. January 2007. Her results in the European Cup were a little better, but she only managed to score twice in this racing series. Her best European Cup result by far was the 13th place in the Super-G in Davos on December 14, 2007. She was only one more time among the fastest 30.

At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère , Morlans finished 28th in the downhill, but retired in Super-G and Super Combination. When she was not called up by the Spanish Federation for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver next winter , Morlans retired at the age of just 22.
