Libero Gerosa

Libero Gerosa (born March 2, 1949 in Stabio , Ticino ) is a Swiss Roman Catholic theologian and canon lawyer .

Life

Libero Gerosa studied Catholic theology at the University of Friborg and Canon Law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1975, he received in Lugano the priesthood . In 1984 he was in Friborg to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1988 he qualified as a professor for canon law at the Catholic University of Eichstätt . From 1990 to 2000 he was full professor of canon law at the Theological Faculty in Paderborn , and from 1997 to 1999 he was its rector .

From 2000 until his retirement in 2015 he was professor of canon law at the Theological Faculty of Lugano (FTL), from 2000 to 2008 he was its rector. In 2002 he founded the International Institute for Canon Law and Comparative Religious Law (DiReCom) , of which he is director. Since his retirement he has been teaching Biblical Hermeneutics at the FTL.

Gerosa has taken on numerous national and international commitments. In 2001 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as an advisor to the Pontifical Council for the Laity . Since 2002 he has been Vice-President of the Theological Commission of the Swiss Bishops' Conference and since 2003 advisor to the Congregation for the Clergy . Since January 2009 Gerosa has been President of the “Church and State” commission of the Swiss Bishops' Conference and President of the Appeals Commission of the Administrative Court of the Diocese of Lugano .

Gerosa is one of the authors of the church official translation of the CCEO into German .

Gerosa is represented in the second edition of the handbook of Catholic canon law, published in 1999, with two short articles (about the highest authority in the church and about church movements ). Together with Eugenio Corecco , he is the author of the standard Italian introductory work Il diritto della Chiesa (Milan 1995) and the two-volume Introduzione al diritto canonico published in 2012 in the Libreria Editrice Vaticana .
