Lichfield is a settlement in the South Waikato District of the Waikato regionon the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
Lichfield was founded in the late 1880s and named after the town of the same name in the county of Staffordshire in England , where the first New Zealand bishop of the Anglican Church and later primate of the Anglican Church in New Zealand, George Augustus Selwyn , held the bishopric from 1868.
geography
The settlement is located around 12 km north-northwest of Tokoroa and around 38 km west of Rotorua . The New Zealand State Highway 1 and the North Island Main Trunk Railway run through the settlement without a stop. A small road leads to Ngatira in the east.

In the 2013 census, the town had 987 inhabitants, 1.9% more than in the 2006 census.
