Lidi Remmelzwaal

Alida "Lidi" Petronella Remmelzwaal (born November 16, 1950 in Leiden ) is a Dutch diplomat . She chairs the board of directors of World Waternet . Between 2002 and 2016 she was the Dutch ambassador in various countries.

Life

In 1975 she graduated from Wageningen University as an engineer. She studied food technology and tropical agriculture there. From 1976 to 1979 she worked for Nuffic , a Dutch university foundation for international cooperation. From 1980 to 1983 she worked for the Mozambique Ministry of Health . In 1984/85 she worked as a food expert in the Dutch embassy in Mozambique . From 1985 to 1991 she was director for development cooperation in the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture . In the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was also director for development cooperation from 1991 to 1995 and from 1995 to 1999 in the United Nations Funds and Programs Department .

She is married.

Diplomatic career

From 1999 to 2002 she was Deputy Ambassador and Head of Development Cooperation at the Dutch Embassy in Zambia . From 2002 to 2006 Lidi Remmelzwaal was Ambassador to Mozambique , from 2006 to 2010 Ambassador to Ghana , co-accredited for Togo and the Ivory Coast . In 2010 she returned to the Netherlands and was an inspector in the Foreign Service.

From 2013, Hans Blankenberg's successor was the Dutch ambassador to Ethiopia , co-accredited for Djibouti and the African Union (since April 24, 2014), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the Economic Commission for Africa . She resigned at the end of 2016, followed by Bengt van Loosdrecht . She then became an interim ambassador for the Netherlands in Jordan . In September 2017 she left the diplomatic service.

Remmelzwaal has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of World Waternet since 2017. World Waternet is a Dutch non-governmental organization committed to the water issues of the Sustainable Development Goals .
