The Lidl Austria GmbH is a subsidiary of Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG and this in turn by the Schwarz Group .

history

Lidl has been represented in Austria with its headquarters in Salzburg since 1998 . In May 2007 Hanno Rieger became chairman of the company's management. In August 2011, Brendan Proctor took over this position after Hanno Rieger, then Lidl Austria boss, resigned. On August 1st, 2013, Proctor from Ireland returned to Lidl Ireland. His successor Alexander Deopito was previously Head of International Purchasing at the Lidl Foundation in Neckarsulm .

From 2007 to 2015, Lidl Austria's market share in the Austrian food retail sector grew from 3.2% to 5.5%, while sales rose from 510 million euros to 1.1 billion euros in the same period. In 2015, a third logistics center was opened in Wundschuh .

Christian Schugg has been CEO since mid-October 2015. Born in Upper Austria, he joined the company in 2002 and began purchasing goods.

Alessandro Wolf has been CEO since December 2019.

Lidl Austria has the legal form of a limited liability company . Lidl Austria (in Salzburg) and the Lidl Foundation (in Neckarsulm) have separate company headquarters.

Logistics centers

The company operates a total of three logistics centers in Müllendorf ( Burgenland ), Laakirchen ( Upper Austria ) and Wundschuh ( Styria ). A logistics center in Großebersdorf to replace Müllendorf has been under construction since 2018.

The GmbH sold around 250 million Austrian products in the 2017/18 financial year. Around 100 million euros were invested in the maintenance and construction of 13 new branches. There were 10 million Fairtrade products sold. The turnover was 1.3 billion euros. The turnover of domestic companies through the cooperation with Lidl Austria amounted to 650 million euros.

The number of branches and employees has developed as follows since 2013:

  • 2013: 200 branches and 4,000 employees
  • 2017: 220 branches
  • 2018: 230 branches and 5000 employees

range

Food is the core range of Lidl Austria. The company carries a selection of over 1500 different own and branded articles . Many fresh products, such as dairy products, meat products and baked goods, come from Austria. On the other hand, products from the dry range, such as snacks, confectionery or spices, often come from German manufacturers.

The organic brand with products from Austria is a good piece of home . Lidl offers other organic products under the organic rails of the product group brands such as Kania Bio or Solevita Bio . Most of these products have international origins.

"Lidl Plus"

"Lidl Plus" is a digital customer card system which offers discounts , among other things . It was launched in 2018 and downloaded 50,000 times within a week of launch.

"Lidl Connect"

"Lidl Connect" is a mobile phone service launched in Austria on July 1, 2019 , which uses the network of Hutchison Drei Austria . Various telephony and data packages are offered. In June 2020, the company announced that it had sold a total of 70,000 SIM cards.
