Life Artist is a progressive metal band that was founded in Soest in 1989 .

history

After Marco Witte had a serious car accident in 1988, his guitarist friend, Frank Jauernick, promised him that after his recovery he would start a music project together. At the beginning of 1989 the two musicians met for the first time and composed their first songs together, stylistically based on Thrash . After a short time it was decided to found a permanent band. In the summer of 1989 the two musicians found suitable musicians in guitarist Dirk Godau, bassist Ingo Holzhauer and drummer Roger Ihmann. A short time later they agreed on the band name "Life Artist" and began to write songs, which subsequently developed more and more into the style of Progressive Metal. In the summer of 1990, the band managed to win Michael Lohrmann, who was working with singer Marco on the music magazine Visions at the time. A few weeks later, Life Artist performed for the first time in the Werler music club Cult as part of the “Financial Suicide” festival in the support program of Siren , Accu§er and Secrecy . Shortly thereafter, there was another appearance at the same place with the bands Pyracanda and Secrecy.

In the spring of 1991 Lohrmann made contact with Ralph Hubert von Mekong Delta , who shortly afterwards produced the first demo "Faith". Only a few weeks later the opportunity arose to go on their first tour in Germany in July 1991 as a support act for Psychotic Waltz and Deathrow . In August 1991 there was another small tour in the opening act of Gypsy Kyss , during which the band performed on August 24, 1991 at the 2nd Wacken Open Air . In the course of the tour, the band received a recording contract with the Dream Circle Records label .

After a performance in the Soest town hall with Gypsy Kyss, Megace and Battlefield , singer Marco surprisingly left the band at the end of 1991 shortly before the production of the first album “A Diary Of Inner Visions” due to musical differences and personal problems. Finally, the band found a successor for Marco in Dirk Eckhard, bassist and singer of the befriended prog metal band RHÛN from Dortmund. From April to May 1992 the album "A Diary of Inner Visions", which was again produced by Ralph Hubert in the Phoenix Studio Herne, was completed. The response from the press was mostly positive, but the sales figures were relatively low in contrast to the very successful demo. In autumn 1992 another tour with Psychotic Waltz and Sieges Even followed .

At the beginning of 1993 the guitarists Frank and Dirk and bassist Ingo Holzhauer acted together with Mekong Delta drummer Peter Haas as session musicians on the solo album "The Strange Mind of Buddy Lackey" by Psychotic Waltz frontman Buddy Lackey, with whom they played in August 1993 appear at the 4th Wacken Open Air. In 1993 the band also went on tour through Germany and Austria with the Mekong Delta. In June 1993 the band members finally decided to act as an instrumental band in the future and to move musically towards fusion . Immediately afterwards, the band lost their record deal with Dream Circle Records, and Michael Lohrmann also retired as the band's manager. In January 1994, Life Artist released their self-produced second demo "Land (e) scapes Within a Building", which, however, did not take much notice of either the trade press or the fans. After one last appearance with the progressive metal band Annon Vin, Life Artist finally broke up in the summer of 1994 due to professional changes and personal differences.

In the summer of 2012, Marco Witte and Ingo Holzhauer, who were still friends, decided, inspired by the reunion of Psychotic Waltz, to continue Life Artist as a studio project. As a result, singer Marco Witte began writing new songs. In 2014 drummer Andres Tegeler from Poverty's No Crime joined them, shortly afterwards the former singer Dirk Eckhard (now as bassist) and the former guitarist Frank Jauernick. In November 2016, the band released their first new song, "Antisocial Networks", on Youtube, which is also published on the sampler "Metalliance 2" by Powermetal.de magazine . The band is working on a new album, which will be released in 2018 on the Ragnarök Records label.
