history

Lighthouse was founded in 1968 by Skip Prokop (drums, vocals) and Paul Hoffert (keyboard) in Toronto . Their idea was a rock orchestra consisting of three sections: a rock rhythm section, a jazz wind section and a classical string section. The original formation had 13 members.

The band's first appearance took place on May 14, 1969 in Toronto. In their first year they played at Carnegie Hall , Fillmore East , Fillmore West , the Atlantic City Pop Festival, and the Monterey and Newport Jazz Festivals, among others . In 1970 they played at the Strawberry Fields Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival .

Her first two albums, Lighthouse and Suite Feeling , came out in 1969 on RCA . After the third album Peacing It All Together (1970) the band switched to GRT. With a few line-up changes, they released two albums in 1971: One Fine Morning and Thoughts of Movin’ On , both of which went gold in Canada . RCA benefited from the success and released a best-of album called One Fine Light based on the first three albums.

Lighthouse was on tour 300 days a year. They were also the first rock band to appear with symphony orchestras, including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company - the project that went on tour in Canada was called Ballet High .

Lighthouse Live! was inducted into Carnegie Hall in February 1972 . It was the first Canadian album to reach platinum status . With the next studio album, Sunny Days , they got gold again. Hoffert left the band in 1973, but remained their producer. After the album Good Day the following year, Prokop also left. The band stayed together for some time before breaking up in 1976.

In September 1982, Lighthouse reunited for four concerts in Ontario . In 1989 Denon Records released The Best of Lighthouse - Sunny Days Again . Lighthouse have been performing again since 1992. In 1995 the album Song of the Ages came out on Breaking Records. The single Remember the Times was a top 30 hit in Canada.
