The Lila Eule is a cellar discotheque at Bernhardstrasse 10 in the Bremen district .

history

The original jazz bar Lila Eule was opened on December 27, 1959 at Langenstrasse  27 in Bremen's old town . Initially, traditional jazz musicians such as Ken Colyer , Acker Bilk and Chris Barber played there .

In 1964, a collective that included Olaf Dinné (architect) and Gert Settje (founder of the Cinema im Ostertor ) took over the restaurant. At the end of 1964 the restaurant was moved to Bernhardstraße 10/11 in the Bremen district and reopened there on January 4, 1965. The Bremen-based sextet led by Harald Eckstein joined the reopening . a. Ed Kröger and Rolf Schmidt, which from then on became the house band and regularly played modern jazz twice a week .

The politically active Dinné personally picked up Rudi Dutschke from Berlin on November 27, 1967 , who was giving a speech in the Lila Eule that same evening. As a result, the bar became a meeting point for the Bremen extra-parliamentary opposition . The movements of 1968 found their starting point here in Bremen . The 1968 Bremen tram riots were also prepared here. Musicians like Jan Garbarek , Steve Lacy or Kent Carter appeared in the Lila Eule in the late 1960s . The free jazz album Machine Gun by Peter Brötzmann was recorded here in 1968 , as was an album by Chris McGregor's large formation Brotherhood of Breath ; both concerts were initially broadcast by Radio Bremen . In addition to contemporary jazz, cabaret , rock and beat music were also on the program. In the second half of the 1970s punk music was played. Due to rumors of drug trafficking , the Lila Eule was threatened with closure several times, in 2001 it was closed for nine months. In November 2001 Konstanze Radziwill, daughter of the painter Franz Radziwill , became managing director, two years later Michael Pietsch took over the restaurant.

Currently, the Lila Eule is still running as a "music club" with concerts , but mainly with discotheque programs. On 25/26 In February 2012 the US musician Alex Gimeno performed as a disc jockey .

In May 2015 it became known that a resident had sued against the operation of the discotheque on Thursday night. This action was dismissed by the Bremen Administrative Court in an urgent procedure. Noise measurements were ordered to test the main thing.
